Death, Burial, and Resurrection

While I was in Texas for Easter, I and all my family who had gathered for the family reunion attended the church where Loel attends and works.

The sermon was on "Death, Burial and Resurrection." I had never really thought of the practical aspects of those three words.

Death means to die off. And that is repentance is a believer's life. We die to our old self. Repent does not mean to say we are sorry, and continue doing what we have been doing. Repent means to agree that it is sin and to stop doing it. So, repentance brings death to our old self.

Burial means to be baptised in Christ. We are all to be baptised, I believe. It is a first step in obedience to our new walk with Christ. It does not save us, but it is hard to go on without the act. Scriptures say that in baptism we are all buried with Christ. The outward motions is just symbolism for what has occured in our hearts. We have died to our old self and are buried(baptised) into a new life.

Resurrection means coming back to life. That is the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we would remain "dead and buried." We need to allow this new force to keep us living for Christ. To keep us going. Instead of feeling defeated all the time and worried about what is going on in our world, we need to live the resurrected life that is in us, and know that God has it all planned to come out victoriously in our lives and in the world to come.

So, all believers need to go through their own death, burial and resurrection just as Christ did. He did it for all so we could share in it. By the power of the Holy Spirit which He sent back to us after He ascended.

It really made me think that sometimes I don't show that I have a resurrected life inside of me. And if I don't show it, how will others know it exists??

Or even want to have it for themselves??
