“The Lost Soul” came into being during a sermon Pastor Rich gave in a Sunday morning service.

The Lost Soul

A Sunday night and all alone, with stars so brightly shining

A figure with a heart like stone strolled lonely streets while crying.

Nowhere to go. No one to see. Her world collapsed in disarray,

She wondered what her life would be for anger broke all bonds that day.

Cast from her home to not return. Oh, if she could regress one day

And hopefully she’d maybe learn to hold back what she’d had to say.

The tongue is unforgiving when, with hurting, angry words you speak

Not realizing once again that you must turn the other cheek

Or suffer consequences great as many teardrops start to flow.

You then find out that it’s too late. You’ve burned the bridge. No place to go.

She wandered aimlessly about until she chanced to overhear

A voice that raised into a shout, “With Christ you never need have fear!”

“He loves you, child! He always will! He’ll never turn his face away!”

The words sank in as she stood still. She wished that she knew how to pray

For in her broken heart she knew these words were from her God above

And second chances were so few. She longed to partake of His love.

A brightly lighted church stood there. The preaching voice came from within.

And suddenly she was aware that truly she was deep in sin.

She ventured to the doorway then to try to overcome the fright

That came upon her body when she heard the loud voice in the night.

It was as if a gentle hand was urging her to step inside.

And then, “You must be born again!” removed all of her foolish pride.

The congregation burst into a stanza of, “Just As I Am”,

And while they sang she fairly flew down the aisle going to the Lamb.

She knows contentment for you see, all her fences she has mended

She’s made amends to family and her anger she has ended.

She’s now a child of her God and tries to follow in His way.

Her path in life she’ll gladly trod, for now she does know how to pray!
